Modern without being stark, this green-built prefab home became an instant landmark in the Zilker neighborhood. We enhanced its unique corner-lot presence with a screen of native plants and fencing that links public outdoor spaces with an inner courtyard only slightly visible from the street. After relocating steel planters and mitigating a drainage issue with steel retention, we added paths and patios built from local limestone gravel over compacted road base, with welded steel edges and poured-in-place concrete pavers. Blooming perennials and wildflowers add color, roses and crossvine twine up a custom-fabricated steel trellis and a drip-irrigated native Buffalo lawn needs mowing only twice a year.
