Bunk House Green Roof
Located in Austin's Northfield Neighborhood, this intensive green roof sits a top a 250 sq ft, detached bunk house. Completed in the Fall of 2009, this roof aims to serve as a poster-child for creative ways of implementing green infrastructure. The soil ranges from 8-10" in depth and weighs 70 lbs/ sq ft. Given these depths, the plant pallet includes over 35 different species: cascading roses, crossvine, extensive varieties of desert and prairie grasses as well as 25 sq ft of Zoysia lawn.Benefits of this particular roof include but are not limited to: onsite water processing, additional amenity space for this tight urban site, insulation and shading value for the building and waste diversion- as the roofing membrane will last 2-3 times longer than conventional options.
